Screening/Enrollment

Do you have a child you would like to enroll in Champaign Pre-K? Our program is run through the state-funded "Preschool for All" grant at no cost to parents/guardians. Children in our program are ages 3-5. Children must turn 3 by Sept. 1 of the current school year, unless they qualify for special education services. Once a child is kindergarten-eligible (age 5 by Sept. 1) they may no longer attend pre-K. There is a morning and afternoon session, each running 2.5 hours Monday through Friday.

The first step in the process for enrolling in our state funded pre-K program is to have your student screened. The child can be added to our waitlist for screening on or after their third birthday. To be added to the wait list for a screening appointment, please fill out the CECC Screening Waitlist Form. The form includes English, Spanish, and French languages.

Every child must be screened before being enrolled. Once screened, we must find each child eligible through established criteria, which includes income, environmental factors, concerns for development or lack of kindergarten readniess skills, among other risk factors. We also prioritize those children who will be kindergarten bound the following year.

There is often a waitlist for the program. Even if your child is screened, they may not be enrolled until the following year or the next, depending on their age and eligibility.

Upon enrollment, we must have proof of income, proof of residency within the school district (Champaign, Savoy, or Bondville), a school physical, and a copy of your child's certified birth certification.

For questions about the screening process or pre-K program, you can call the CECC office at (217) 351-3881.
